About the FLeD Tool

The FLeD Learning Design Tool supports university educators in creating flexible and effective flipped learning scenarios. Developed as part of the FLeD project by the TIDE research group at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and international partners, the tool combines pedagogical and technological innovations to address diverse educational needs. It is designed to guide teachers through:

  • Flipped Learning Patterns: Offering structured guidance for creating student-centered learning experiences.
  • Scaffolding Mechanisms: Facilitating adaptability to meet diverse student needs, such as technological support, inclusivity, and self-regulation.
  • Playful Learning Design: Engaging teachers through an interactive, game-based design process.

Key Features and Benefits

1. Flipped Learning Patterns

The tool provides structured guidance through four adaptable flipped learning patterns that cover learners’ different educational needs:

  • Constructive Feedback Pattern: Offers strategies to facilitate meaningful feedback during in-class activities.
  • Prior Preparation Pattern: Enhances students’ self-regulation for out-of-class learning preparation.
  • Team Regulation Pattern: Techniques to manage and monitor collaborative student work.
  • A combined pattern:  This pattern serves as a flexible option, allowing teachers to create learning scenarios by mixing features available in the three existing patterns: constructive feedback, prior preparations and team regulation.

2. Scaffolding Mechanisms

The tool provides structured guidance and actionable recommendations to adapt learning designs for various needs, such as digital environments, inclusivity, and self-regulation.

3. Playful and Interactive Design

The tool enables educators to engage through game-based design elements that encourage exploration, creativity, and collaboration.

4. User-Friendly Features

A comprehensive learning design editor facilitates the seamless creation and management of scenarios, while a community platform fosters sharing and collaboration, enabling educators to explore, reuse, and refine shared learning designs, thereby promoting collaboration and professional growth.

5. Practical and Tested Innovation

The tool is grounded in a robust design-based research methodology and has been piloted and tested by university lecturers across five European countries.

6. Commitment to Inclusion and Multilingual Support

Resources and interfaces are being expanded and translated into six languages, enhancing accessibility for a diverse range of educators.

7. Comprehensive Resources

The tool includes a toolkit with video tutorials, guides for inclusiveness, and detailed explanations of learning patterns.
